eBay has no tags field, so the best keywords for an eBay listing go in two places: the title, which eBay caps at 80 characters, and the item specifics, which eBay's Seller Center calls "descriptive keywords". The best ones are the words buyers already type. The tool above reads them from eBay's own search suggestions, counts the live listings that already match each phrase, and lists the item specifics eBay asks for in the category.

Spend the 80 characters in order: brand, model and product type first, then the size, colour or spec that sets the item apart. Then give every fact its item specific, because eBay builds the filters beside its results from them. We read each eBay rule on this page on eBay's own pages on 3 October 2026.

Where keywords live on an eBay listing

eBay's guide to creating a listing covers seven parts, and none is a tags field. Two carry keywords: the title, which eBay matches to the buyer's search, and the item specifics, which it matches too and builds its filters from. eBay says your item appears in filtered search results only if you've added the matching item specific.

The description is where keywords get lost: eBay's Advanced search makes "Title and description" an option the buyer has to tick, so a word that lives only there misses everyone who doesn't.

A buyer's words have to be in your title or an item specific to find you; the description only counts for buyers who tick "Title and description".

How this tool picks phrases, and what it doesn't claim

Every number in the tool comes from eBay, read when you run it, for the eBay site you pick. Three steps, in this order:

  1. eBay's search suggestions

The phrases eBay's search box offers as a buyer types your words, in eBay's order. The bar beside each one shows that order, not how often anyone searches it.

  2. Live listings per phrase

eBay's own count of live listings that match each phrase. More listings means more sellers competing for the same words, not more buyers.

  3. Item specifics for the category

The category where most of those listings sit, the item specifics eBay requires or recommends there, and the values live listings use most.

Three free places eBay itself gives you

eBay shows sellers some of the words buyers use, free. None of them is a search count per phrase, and each answers a different question, so use them together.

Spend your 80 characters

eBay's own structure for a title runs "NEW", brand, product name, model number, then size and colour, then one more word buyers use, with no whole words in capitals and no asterisks between words. In short: what the item is first, what sets it apart next, and stop when the true words run out.

Here is that order in a real title. Given a used Nikon D3500 with its 18-55mm kit lens, Sellura's eBay generator returned Nikon D3500 DSLR Camera 18-55mm VR Lens Kit 24.2MP Low Shutter Count: 68 characters, scored 99 of 100 (real Sellura output, 3 October 2026). "Used" isn't there, because eBay's Condition field carries it.

Diagram of the eBay title Nikon D3500 DSLR Camera 18-55mm VR Lens Kit 24.2MP Low Shutter Count laid over an 80-character ruler. The brand, model and product type are coloured as identity words and the kit lens and sensor as attributes. The condition detail ends the title at character 68 and the last 12 characters stay empty.
Brand, model and product type fill the first 23 characters, the attributes that set this camera apart follow, and the title stops at 68 rather than padding to 80.

Item specifics are keywords too

Whatever didn't fit in 80 characters goes into the item specifics, and so does every fact that did. Repeating a title fact in its specific isn't stuffing: the specific is matched by search too, and it feeds the filter a buyer clicks.

eBay recommends specifics based on buyer demand data and popular searches, and periodically makes new ones required based on buyers' search trends. The tool shows which are which for your category.

Keyword mistakes eBay warns about

eBay's search manipulation policy is short: popular keywords with no relation to your item aren't allowed, and all the words in a listing need to be accurate and refer only to the item for sale. Its intellectual property policy names the most tempting breach: a brand on a product that brand didn't make.

  • No comparisons with other products, and no keywords with question marks.
  • "Fits", "for" or "compatible with" go before the name of the item yours works with, never before a clothing, jewellery or accessories brand.
  • No comma-separated keyword lists: eBay's Global Selling guide says to work keywords in naturally.
  • No whole words in capitals and no asterisks between words: the same guide says they can lower your ranking.

What Sellura does here, and what it doesn't

This page reads eBay for you: its suggestions, its live listing counts and its category data, free and without an account. Once the words are chosen, Sellura's generator writes the whole eBay listing from one product description: a title inside 80 characters, item specifics for the category and a description, with versions for Etsy, Amazon Handmade, Shopify, Depop and Walmart.

What it doesn't do: Sellura has no eBay search-volume database, doesn't track rankings and can't see your sales or your Seller Hub. The research above runs on eBay's own numbers.

Questions sellers ask

How do I find the best keywords for my eBay listing?
Start from the words buyers type: eBay's search box suggests them, and the tool on this page lists them for your product with the number of live listings already using each. Put brand, model and product type first in the 80-character title, then fill every item specific eBay asks for in the category with the true value.
How do I add keywords to an eBay listing?
Type them into the title, up to 80 characters, and into the item specifics in the listing form; eBay has no tags field. Lead with brand, model and product type, then the attributes that set the item apart. On a live listing, revise rather than relist.
What keywords draw views on eBay?
Words buyers type that are true of your item: brand, model, product type, then the size, capacity or spec that separates it from the next listing. Keywords decide whether you're matched; where you rank among the matches also depends on factors eBay lists, such as the item's popularity and price.
Should I repeat keywords in item specifics?
Repeat facts, not filler. A brand or model in your title still belongs in its item specific, because eBay builds its filters from item specifics and shows a listing in a filtered search only when the matching specific is filled. Repeating a word inside the title itself only spends characters.
Is there a free eBay keyword tool with search volume?
Not as eBay data: eBay doesn't publish how often a phrase is searched. Its free Product Research (Terapeak) measures sales, not searches, and the listing form's item-specifics guidance is based on 30 days of searches without showing the numbers. This tool shows the order of eBay's own suggestions and the live count of listings per phrase, and says so.
Where does this data come from?
From eBay, when you run the tool: the phrases from eBay's search suggestions, the counts from eBay's search, and the categories and item specifics from eBay's category data. Answers are kept for up to 6 hours (listing counts) or 24 hours (category data) and contain no seller names or prices. Sellura is not affiliated with eBay.

The short version

Monday morning: type what you're selling into the tool, keep the phrases eBay suggests that are true of your item, and favour the ones fewer live listings share. Spend the 80 title characters on identity first and attributes second, give every remaining fact its item specific, and cut any word that isn't true. Then build the title from eBay's own fields, or describe the product once and let Sellura write the full eBay listing: the score and title preview are free, and a credit unlocks the rest.
